Keel Boat Racing Squadron |
KBRS is Keel Boat Racing Squadron. In short, it's a group of sailors on Cheney Lake that like to get together for some sailing competition.
The boats used in the races are comprised of many different models, and the sailors are of all levels of ability. There are different classes for different types of boats. Keel, multi-hulls, and centerboard boats are all welcome. For those individuals that enjoy the more leisurely version of sailing, the races include a cruising class, in addition to the more typical racing class.
All boats are welcome, and if you would like to ride in a race, many skippers are glad to have extra hands onboard. Check the Boat handicaps. If your boat is not listed, contact admin@kbrs.org, and we'll get it included.
Our standard policy is that anyone can participate in 3 races in a season without being asked to pay the standard KBRS dues of $45 per boat. Keep in mind that this amount includes 3 cookouts during the season at which KBRS provides burgers, brats and all the trimmings. Members are invited to bring a side item to add to the table. There's even a special "first year" membership of $15.
The races typically take place on Wednesday evenings during the summer, but move to Saturday afternoons when the days get shorter in the late fall. Racing usually begins in April, and lasts until October. Additional races are held during the day on Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July. Barbeque cookouts after three of the races allow the sailors to mingle and have some social fun under the stars. Come and join the fun!
Any sailboat is welcome to come out and race with us. Simply be on the water approximately
30 minutes before the race time and check in with the race committee. (large NSA deck boat)
